Success Story

Silky Tang
Aircraft Maintenance Approved Technician (Grade 2)
Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited

Silky is interested in assembling and disassembling mechanical devices since childhood. After completing Form 5, Silky worked as a sales executive for about a year. One day, she came across a YETP online advertisement about the "Aircraft Maintenance Craftsman Trainee" Training Project.  She applied at once in the hope of becoming an Aircraft Maintenance expert.

At the beginning, Silky hesitated if she was able to discharge the duties as she was the only girl in the department.  However, after an intensive pre-employment training, Silky was successfully employed as an Aircraft Maintenance Craftsman Trainee.  At first, Silky encountered lots of difficulties at work as the job required physical strength and she sometimes had arguments with her supervisors due to different points of views. Nevertheless, she did not give up and strived hard to overcome challenges. After learning how to respect others, appreciate her supervisors’ precious experience as well as the guidance and support from her mentor and co-workers, Silky established a harmonious working relationship with her teammates.

Silky familiarized herself with knowledge about aircraft types and components by dedicating time and efforts. Ever since Silky had taken up a supervisory role in her team, she shared with junior staff members the trade skills she has learnt.

Even Silky is busy at work, she keeps on taking further studies on aircraft maintenance to achieve her career goal as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.  Silky is the first female Cat. T Maintenance authorization holder in Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO). In 2016, she was promoted to Aircraft Maintenance Approved Technician (Grade 2) - a big step forward in achieving her career goal.
