Gloria was employed as a Teaching Assistant through the "I.T. Seeds Project" and the "Electronic Leader Training Project". At first, she felt very stressful for not being able to properly carry out the tasks assigned by nearly 40 teachers. She needed time to adapt gradually and learn while working. In view of inadequate knowledge and skills in education, Gloria took the initiative to pursue further studies. At present, she has completed a number of courses in early childhood education. To the teachers, Gloria was a sincere colleague. To the students, she was a friendly teacher. Being kind-hearted as she was, Gloria patiently helped teachers handled mischievous and uncooperative students. She was definitely a great helper to the teachers. With a passion for early childhood education, Gloria impressed her employer as having exceptional potential for early childhood education and teaching.

Kit neither had interest in studying nor had goal or direction in life since he was a child. He discontinued his studies after completing a Foundation Diploma course. Thinking highly of himself but with insufficient academic qualifications and work experience, he could only find some low-skilled jobs with low pay which caused him great frustration. On his teacher's recommendation, Kit enrolled in YETP with a view to securing a desirable job and planning for his future. Through the "I.T. Seeds Project" and the "Electronic Leader Training Project", Kit was recruited as a Teaching Assistant. Since then, he has changed a lot and became mature and practical. Despite many difficulties at the beginning, he managed to overcome them one by one with perseverance. His employer was very satisfied with his work performance. Through contacts with secondary school students, Kit realised his own inadequacies and was eager for self-improvement. He understood that to work in the I.T. field, he needed to keep up-to-date knowledge and get well equipped in order to perform his duties. Therefore, he planned to pursue further studies to obtain higher qualifications so that he could become a teacher or a youth worker in future.

Shelly was perplexed about her future after graduation. She had no direction about her career path due to lack of working experience. She then joined the "Hotel Industries On-the-job Training Posts Recruitment Day" under YETP and was successfully employed as a Hotel Operation Trainee. At the beginning, she was rather nervous at work because of her little knowledge about the hotel industry. In particular, she looked flurried when she encountered foreign guests. Under her mentor's caring guidance, Shelly gradually built up confidence enabling her to complete her tasks smoothly. She was also getting better in mastering customer service skills. Meanwhile, she actively took part in the English courses organised by the hotel to improve her English standard. In February this year, she was promoted to Food & Beverage Services Agent. Being an efficient and industrious employee, Shelly always wore a smiling face and brought positive energy to the colleagues. The employer remarked that Shelly was a conscientious staff member who performed her job with initiative and was an employee of great potential. She has earlier received the "Trainee Award" from the employer and the "Performance Award for Upholding Brand Service Pledge" of the hotel group. Shelly has a passion for serving the hotel (catering) industry. She would also like to try different posts in future to gain more experience through practice in providing quality service to the guests.

Victor's father was a Thai and his mother was a Chinese. He was born and brought up in Hong Kong, and was all along interested in engines and repairing works. Victor joined the company through the "Project for Tradesman Trainees". At first, he did not have any work experience on site. However, with the on-the-job training provided by the company, Victor had the opportunity to work on site and gradually acquainted himself with the work procedures. In his daily work, he often came into contact with people from different strata and has to work with contractors of various trades. This not only enhanced his communication skills but also boosted his self-confidence. Being modest, Victor was willing to listen to the advice of his supervisor and colleagues for self-reflection and improvement. He also familiarised himself with the site conditions proactively. He raised questions without hesitation and faced all kinds of challenges with the goal of becoming an engineer.

Wendy joined the company through the "Lantau Youth Ambassador Programme". At the beginning, she could not adapt to the working environment because of her passive character and she did not have confidence in performing the jobs. However, under the guidance of an experienced colleague who served as her mentor, she gradually regained confidence and started to realise her potential. She assisted in the organisation of festive activities for the housing estate and her performance was highly commended by her supervisor. Her most unforgettable experience was the organisation of a Christmas party for the housing estate which involved a great deal of coordination work and thus helped broaden her horizons. The enthusiasm demonstrated by the participants of the activities brought her great excitement and satisfaction. Her commitment and proactive attitude at work, coupled with her willingness to serve, have won acclaim from many residents as well as respect and support from her colleagues. Wendy felt lucky because she was able to learn more about herself and found her goal through the programme. She planned to take a property management course to facilitate her career development.

Cheung came to Hong Kong from the Mainland two years ago. He has a keen interest in electrical engineering as well as assembling and disassembling mechanical devices. However, since his academic qualification awarded by a senior secondary school in the Mainland was not recognised by a number of local employers, he had no choice but to serve as a casual worker. One day, Cheung came across an advertisement about the recruitment day for the "Aircraft Maintenance Craftsman Trainee" training project on the YETP webpage and he grasped the opportunity to enrol. Upon successful employment, he was currently engaged in the maintenance of aircraft fuselage. Although Cheung has attained a certain level of English proficiency, he found the aviation terms both technical and difficult and he must put more effort in learning. Thanks to the support from his mentor and co-workers, he has managed to solve the problems encountered at work one by one. After just a few months into the job, Cheung was able to complete simple lubricating work of mechanical parts independently. He was determined to take further studies in aircraft engineering in the hope of achieving success in his career.




CHONG Siu Pan

Siu Pan was a trainee of the "Targeted Career Training Mission". He had poor self-esteem and felt uncertain about his future because of his health problem. He often told the social workers that he was "unable to do anything". Yet, Siu Pan was encouraged to take up the post of Programme Assistant in a youth centre to provide supporting services and perform reception work. Under the patient guidance and support of the centre staff, Siu Pan gradually understood that he still had the ability to work instead of always thinking negative of himself. While participating in the project, Siu Pan also attended various courses so as to have a better understanding of different job skills and adjusted his job expectation. His case manager also assisted him to obtain a security personnel permit. In December last year, he was successfully employed as a security guard (relief work). At first, Siu Pan was timid in work. However, with his good working attitude, his employer was willing to give him an opportunity and arranged him to work in less crowded places. Since then, Siu Pan has become more proactive. Every day he responded to customer enquiries politely. His employer remarked that Siu Pan was devoted to his job. For instance, he has no record of absence or lateness since he commenced work. He found Siu Pan's responsible work attitude very impressive. Siu Pan has obtained great satisfaction from his present job. He would like to proceed with his career in the security industry.




CHAN Pui Yan

In the past, Yan had a very strong awareness of self-protection but poor social skills. Despite holding a higher diploma, her career path was hampered by her lack of confidence and had therefore been full of frustrations. Later, Yan joined "Action S5" and was successfully being employed as a Programme Assistant. Having considered Yan's situation, her service unit specially devised a progressive work plan to help her gradually open up and bring her potential into full play. Apart from performing general duties at the counter, Yan was also a "master craftsman" who taught members handicrafts and brought them fun and joy. She often helped elderly members solve problems in using Internet. Her patience in listening and her modest attitude have won much praise from the elders. To enhance her customer service skills, Yan pursued further studies with the off-the-job vocational training allowance granted under YETP. Upon completion of the one-year on-the-job training, she was employed as a clerk in the course administration department in December 2013. She intended to better equip herself for taking up clerical work and serving the elderly in the welfare sector in future.

After completing the Project Yi Jin, Eugenia planned to join the aviation industry. Due to her inadequacies in educational attainment, working experience and the English language, she worried about the chance of acquiring a job in the field. As introduced by a friend, she joined the "Airport Ambassador Programme". Upon completion of the programme, she was successfully employed as a member of the ground crew. As the hectic work schedule of the ground crew did not allow her to seek immediate assistance when encountering problems at work, she sometimes made mistakes. Considering her limited working experience and educational attainment, Eugenia intended to enhance her competitiveness through further studies but she could not afford the cost. She therefore determined to resign as ground staff and joined the Airport Authority again as an Airport Ambassador Supervisor. Not only did she have to interact with visitors, she also had to serve as a leader of the Airport Ambassadors and Airport Ambassador Leaders. At first, she found it very stressful as she did not have management experience. Fortunately, the support and encouragement from her mentor and case manager gave her strength. With good knowledge in airport operation, together with enhanced interpersonal skills by way of continuous communication, Eugenia's performance showed consistent improvement. Now, she was committed to becoming a role model for the Airport Ambassadors and Airport Ambassador Leaders. She also aspired to become an Airport Customer Service Operation Officer in future to continue providing quality service to visitors.




WONG Chin Fai, Derek

Derek loved watching gangster movies since he was a child. He was an active person and did not like nine-to-five routine job. To realise his childhood dream of joining the disciplinary forces, he has been keen on improving his physical fitness by doing regular exercise. Unable to get admitted to university after completing Form 7, he became a member of the disciplinary forces. However, he found the job nature did not suit him. With health problem, he quitted the job after some time. He then became worried and confused about his future again. He learnt about the Squad "3S" training programme co-organised by YETP and the Employees Retraining Board. Believing that the property management jobs suited his character well with good career prospects, Derek decided to pursue this new career path. After completing the training programme, he was immediately engaged as a Management Service Assistant. When he first took up the job, Derek had to face different challenges. In addition, as he lived in a remote district, he spent a rather long time in travelling to the workplace every day. He had thought about giving up but eventually he managed to overcome it. Derek made good use of time in learning new things. His hard-working attitude and dedication to work have earned appreciation from his supervisor. He was regarded as one of the best trainees among his batch of new recruits. Derek did not mind taking up the heavy workload and he even decided to study high diploma course in property management for advancement in his career.
