Winson suffered from stammering and dyslexia in his childhood, causing him great difficulties in his academic and social life. The problem also turned him into a passive introvert with little self-confidence. Getting only seven points in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), he knew he could not make it to university. He therefore enrolled on a higher diploma course in tourism and hospitality.
While being anxious about his future after graduation, Winson joined YETP, through which he met a circle of friends who accepted him and a case manager who cared about him. He then restored his confidence in getting along with people and rebuilt a normal social circle. Also, by attending the core course of YETP and related activities, Winson found he had a talent for photography and image design, and thus discovered a direction for his career. With the encouragement and assistance of the case manager, Winson received one month's workplace attachment training in a make-up and personal image company. During the training period, he established his career aspiration, and, with good performance, got employed. As a staff member of the company, he was offered on-the-job training and given ample learning opportunities in respect of photography and make-up by the employer. He also paid visits to different schools to teach students the basic photography skills and promote photographic work.
Winson said that his employer and case manager had given him great support and encouragement, which enabled him to recognise his worth and boost his confidence in interpersonal communication, as well as take image design and photography as his lifelong career. Winson also planned to enrol on make-up and personal image courses so as to enhance his competence and further develop his career.
