To develop young people's job skills, working experience and credentials, thereby enhancing their employability and competitiveness, the Labour Department has introduced the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme (YPTP) and the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS).
In the Programme Year 2008/09, the two Programmes will join hands in receiving applications.

Eligibility: Young school leavers
aged between 15 and 24
(No educational requirements
required by the YPTP)
(The educational attainment of applicants
for the YWETS should be below degree level)

Youth Pre-employment Training
Programme(YPTP)

The Programme aims to enhance the employability
and competitiveness of young school leavers aged
between 15 and 19 by providing a comprehensive
range of employment-related training.
The Programme includes:
1) Modular Training
  - Module A: Leadership, Discipline and Team Building Training
  - Module B: Job Search and Interpersonal Skills Training     (compulsory)
  - Module C: Computer Application Training
  - Module D: Job-specific Skills Training
2) Workplace Attachment Training
3) Career Counselling and Support Services

Streaming Arrangement
Applicants will be streamed according to
their age and previous training under the Youth
Pre-employment Training Programme.

Transport Allowance
For the Programme Year 2008/09, trainees with 80% attendance or above of a modular or tailor-made training course of YPTP or the induction course of YWETS are entitled to a transport allowance at a rate of $30 per valid training day. For induction course under YWETS, the allowance claimed is subject to a maximum of $300 for at most 10 valid training days.

Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS)
The Scheme provides on-the-job training for young people aged 15-24 with below-degree educational attainment. It enhances their work skills, experience and credentials to brighten up their employment prospects.
- Case Management Services
- Induction Course (Trainees who have completed soft skills   training are exempted)
- 6 -12 months On-the-job Training
- Off-the-job Vocational Training

Young people interested in joining the YPTP or the YWETS can obtained application forms from the YPTP & YWETS Offices, Job Centres of the Labour Department, Youth Employment Start, the Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department*, the District Offices of the Social Welfare Department*, relevant training bodies or the Youth Employment Services website (www.yes.labour.gov.hk) from 2 August 2008 onward and submit through the specified channels.
